Challenges

Though the museum first opened in April 2017, its network infrastructure was quickly reaching its limits. The network’s performance, speed, and stability needed support, along with a streamlined management system. Additionally, in today’s fast-paced world, thinking about technology solutions means also anticipating what tomorrow’s requirements might be. To address these growing challenges, the Museum of the American Revolution reached out to Weidenhammer and requested our assistance in modernizing their existing network infrastructure, which would help to optimize their visitor experience.

Solutions

A significant factor in finding the right solution was thinking about both the immediate and future needs for the museum. We recognized that whatever solution was recommended, it would need to be scalable, secure, and easily managed and maintained by museum staff. With these considerations in mind, Weidenhammer recommended a two-phase implementation of the Meraki platform.

The first phase focused on replacing the core switch infrastructure with Meraki switches. The second phase focused on replacing specific switches in key locations throughout the museum. Our end goal was to improve the network’s security, speed, and stability, ultimately enhancing its overall performance while allowing room for expansion.

Results

The improved network infrastructure not only accommodates today’s needs, but anticipates tomorrow’s expectations. The Meraki switches feed into the cloud-based Meraki dashboard, making it easier for museum employees to manage the network and its users. It will enable the museum to provide accessibility to the network and systems throughout the facility.

The increased network performance means staff can operate more efficiently and effectively, enhancing the museum’s ability to achieve its goal of inspiring people to gain a deeper appreciation for how this nation came to be and consider their role in ensuring that the promise of the American Revolution endures.
